Kya chahiye

  • 1.5 cup paani
  • 8-10 tulsi ke patte
  • 4-5 kaali mirch
  • 1 inch adrak
  • 2 laung
  • 1 chhota tukda dalchini
  • swaad ke liye thoda gud (optional — diabetes ho to bilkul nahi)

Kaise banate hain

Dedh cup paani bartan me chadhayein. Kaali mirch, laung aur dalchini ko halka koot kar paani me daal dein. Adrak kaddukas karke daalein. Ubaal aane ke baad tulsi ke patte daalein aur dheemi aanch par tab tak pakayein jab tak paani lagbhag aadha na reh jaaye — kareeb 8-10 minute. Chaan lein. Swaad ke liye thoda gud mila sakte hain, lekin diabetes ho to gud aur shakkar dono nahi; shahad daalna ho to kaadha gungunaa hone ke baad hi daalein, aur shahad kabhi bhi 1 saal se chhote bachche ko nahi. Din me ek se do chhoti pyaali kaafi hai, aur sardi ke kuch din tak hi — mahino rozana peene ki cheez ye nahi hai. Khaali pet gaadha kaadha peene se kai logon ko acidity ho jaati hai, isliye kuch khaakar peena behtar hai. Ye ek garam, aaramdayak paani hai; bukhar, saans ki takleef ya lambi khaansi me iske bharose ruke nahi rehna.

Put a cup and a half of water on to boil. Lightly crush the black pepper, cloves and cinnamon and drop them in. Grate in the ginger. Once it boils, add the tulsi leaves and simmer until the water reduces to roughly half — about eight to ten minutes. Strain it. A little jaggery can go in for taste, but no jaggery or sugar if there is diabetes; if you want honey, add it only after the kadha has cooled to lukewarm, and never give honey to a child under one. One or two small cups a day is plenty, and only for the few days of a cold — this is not a drink for every day for months. Drunk strong on an empty stomach it gives many people acidity, so have it after some food. It is a warm, comforting drink; do not wait it out with kadha if there is fever, breathing trouble or a cough that will not end.

Parampara kya kehti hai

Kaadhe ke peeche ghar ki soch ye hai ki teekhi aur 'garam' cheezein kaf ko sukha deti hain aur andar se garmi lakar sardi ko baithati hain. Tulsi Ayurveda aur Siddha me sadiyon se dawa ke roop me istemaal hoti aayi hai, aur COVID ke daur me kaadha ghar-ghar pahunch gaya. Log ise 'immunity' ke naam par peete hain — ye parampara ka daawa hai, koi napa-tula nateeja nahi.

The reasoning behind kadha is that pungent, 'heating' ingredients dry up phlegm and warm the body out of a cold. Tulsi has been used in Ayurvedic and Siddha practice for centuries, and through the COVID years kadha reached almost every kitchen. People drink it in the name of 'immunity'. That is a traditional claim, not a measured outcome.

Shodh kya kehti hai

Sirf parampara

Poore kaadhe ke mishran par koi human trial nahi mila. Alag-alag cheezon ka haal bhi patla hai: NCCIH ki adrak wali page me sardi, khaansi ya saans ke infection ka zikr tak nahi — wahan ginger matli-ulti aur jodon ke dard par padha gaya hai. Wikipedia ki tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) entry sirf itna kehti hai ki tulsi Ayurvedic aur Siddha paramparaon me uske 'maane jaane wale' aushadhiya gunon ke liye istemaal hoti rahi hai — wahan kisi clinical trial ka nateeja diya hi nahi gaya. NHS ka apna line ye hai ki vitamin C, echinacea ya lahsun jaise supplements sardi rokte ya jaldi utaarte hon, iske bahut kam saboot hain. Kaadha garam aur aaramdayak zaroor hai; usse aage ka daawa filhaal khaali hai.

No human trial of the whole mixture was found. The individual parts are thin too: NCCIH's ginger page does not mention cough, cold or respiratory infection — there, ginger has been studied for nausea and vomiting and for joint pain. Wikipedia's entry on tulsi says only that it has been used in Ayurvedic and Siddha practice for its supposed medicinal properties, and reports no clinical trial results at all. The NHS's own line is that there is little evidence that supplements such as vitamin C, echinacea or garlic prevent colds or make you get better faster. Kadha is warm and comforting; past that, the claim is currently empty.
