Mulethi
Mulethi (liquorice root)
Mulethi ki lakdi chusna ya uske paani se garaare — gale ki kharaash aur sookhi khaansi ke liye. Research asli hai, par woh doosri wajah wale gale dard par. Mulethi ka asar dil aur BP par padta hai — kuch din se zyada nahi.
Kya chahiye
- 1 chhoti mulethi ki lakdi, ya 1/2 chhota chammach mulethi powder
- 1 cup paani
- 1 chhota chammach shahad (optional; 1 saal se chhote bachche ko kabhi nahi)
Kaise banate hain
Sabse aasan tareeka: mulethi ki ek chhoti lakdi munh me rakh kar dheere-dheere chusna — lakdi ka tukda gale me atak sakta hai, isliye lete hue, chalte hue ya baat karte hue nahi, aur bachchon ko lakdi bilkul nahi. Ya phir ek cup paani me aadha chhota chammach mulethi powder daal kar 5 minute ubaalein, chaan lein, aur gungunaa hone par ya to ghoont-ghoont pee lein ya usse garaare karein. Din me ek-do baar se zyada nahi, aur lagataar 4-5 din se zyada bilkul nahi. Mulethi hafton tak rozana nahi leni chahiye — iska mukhya tatv glycyrrhizin blood pressure badha sakta hai, khoon me potassium gira sakta hai, aur zyada matra me dil ki dhadkan bigaad sakta hai. Agar aap BP, dil, kidney, steroid ya paani nikalne wali (diuretic) dawa lete hain, to shuru karne se pehle apne doctor se poochh lein. Shahad milana ho to gungune paani me hi, aur 1 saal se chhote bachche ko shahad kabhi nahi.
The simplest way is to keep a small stick of mulethi in the mouth and suck it slowly — a piece of root can lodge in the throat, so not lying down, walking or talking, and never give the stick to a child. Otherwise, boil half a teaspoon of mulethi powder in a cup of water for five minutes, strain it, and either sip it warm or gargle with it. Once or twice a day, no more, and never for more than four or five days in a row. It should not be taken every day for weeks: glycyrrhizin, its main compound, can raise blood pressure, lower blood potassium and, in larger amounts, disturb the heart rhythm. If you take medicine for blood pressure, the heart, the kidneys, steroids, or a water tablet (diuretic), ask your doctor before starting. Add honey only to lukewarm liquid, and never give honey to a child under one year.
Parampara kya kehti hai
Mulethi ko Bharat, Cheen, Arab aur Greece — sabhi purani paramparaon me khaansi, dama aur gale ki takleef ke liye istemaal kiya gaya hai; NCCIH khud is lambe itihaas ka zikr karta hai. Ghar me kaha jaata hai ki mulethi chusne se gala 'chikna' ho jaata hai aur sookhi khaansi baith jaati hai. Ye parampara ka daawa hai — iska matlab ye nahi ki jaanch me bhi wahi mila.
Mulethi has been used for cough, asthma and throat trouble across Indian, Chinese, Arab and Greek traditions alike, and NCCIH itself notes that long history. At home people say sucking the root coats the throat and settles a dry cough. That is a traditional claim; it does not mean testing found the same thing.
Shodh kya kehti hai
Sirf parampara
Jo research maujood hai woh sawaal hi doosra poochhti hai. NCCIH likhta hai ki operation se pehle mulethi ke garaare ya lozenge lene se baad me hone wala gala dard kam ho sakta hai — par woh dard saans wali naali (breathing tube) daalne se hota hai, kisi virus se nahi. Sardi-zukaam wale gale ki kharaash par mulethi ki koi study nahi mili. NCCIH ka apna nateeja saaf hai: kuch insaani studies hui zaroor hain, lekin kisi bhi bimari ke liye itni acchi quality ka saboot nahi hai ki sifarish ki ja sake. Wikipedia ki liquorice entry bhi yahi kehti hai. Doosri taraf glycyrrhizin ke apne khatre hain — BP badhna, khoon me potassium girna, maanspeshiyon me kamzori, aur zyada matra me ya lambe samay tak lene par dil ki dhadkan ka bigadna aur cardiac arrest tak.
The research that exists is aimed at a different question. NCCIH notes that a liquorice gargle or liquorice lozenges taken before surgery might prevent or lessen the sore throat that follows — a soreness caused by the breathing tube, not by a virus. For the scratchy throat of an ordinary cold, no study of mulethi was found. NCCIH's own verdict is blunt: some studies in people have been done, but there is not enough high-quality evidence to clearly support liquorice for any health condition, and Wikipedia's liquorice entry says the same. Against that, glycyrrhizin carries real risks — raised blood pressure, low blood potassium, muscle weakness, and, in large amounts or over the long term, irregular heartbeat and even cardiac arrest.
Kab nuskha chhodkar doctor ke paas
- nigalne me takleef ya saans lene me dikkat
- gale me gaanth, ya 3 hafte se zyada purana munh ka chhala
- bukhar 3 din se zyada, ya 104°F (40°C) se upar, gale ki sujan ke saath
- mulethi lete waqt haath-pair me kamzori, dil ki dhadkan tez lagna, ya sar ghoomna
- mulethi lete waqt pairon/chehre par sujan, peshaab kam hona, ya kuch dinon me tezi se wazan badhna
- ek hafte baad bhi gale me aaram na hona
