CBT

Negative marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer

Duration Note:

90 minutes; 120 minutes for candidates who are eligible for use of a scribe

Sections Note:

The CEN states each question is of 1 mark and the total is 100 questions, but does NOT publish a separate marks column; total marks of 100 follows from '100 questions each of 1 mark'. The CEN also states the section-wise distribution is 'only indicative and there may be some variation in the actual question paper'.

Second Stage Note:

Where a second stage CBT is deemed necessary and held, the Railway Administration reserves the right to treat the first stage CBT as a qualifying test for shortlisting for the second stage. The CEN does not publish any pattern (questions/marks/duration) for such a second stage CBT.

Physical Efficiency Test

Nature:

Mandatory and qualifying in nature (no marks awarded; the CEN does not publish any PET score that counts towards merit)

Stages:

Two stages — Carrying of Weight to specified distance in specified time first; if successful, the Running Test after a recovery gap. Failing the weight carrying test means elimination at that stage itself.

Shortlisting Ratio:

Three times the community wise total vacancy of the posts notified against RRBs/RRCs, based on merit in the CBT (Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this ratio)

Weight Carrying Method:

Lifting a sand bag (without any handle) from a bench/platform at around waist height and carrying it in whichever manner the candidate wants above the ground till the destination point without dropping the sandbag on ground

Pregnant Female Candidates:

A self-declaration on pregnancy status must be submitted on reporting for PET. If she declares she is pregnant, a confirmatory pregnancy test is done; if pregnant (irrespective of duration) she is declared temporarily unfit and empanelment held in abeyance until confinement is over, the vacancy kept reserved, and she is re-examined for PET six weeks after the date of confinement subject to a medical certificate of fitness from a registered medical practitioner.

Document Verification

Requirement:

Candidates must produce their original certificates; no additional time will be given and candidature of a candidate not producing original certificates on the date of verification is liable to be forfeited

Shortlisting Ratio:

Equal to the number of notified vacancies (i.e. in the ratio of 1:1), Railway/RRC wise, based on performance in CBT subject to qualifying in PET

Medical Standards

When:

Candidates called for DV will have to pass requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration

Lasik:

Candidates who have undergone Lasik surgery or any other surgery procedure to correct refractory error are NOT eligible for posts having Medical Standards A-2 & A-3; they ARE eligible for posts having Medical Standard B-1, C-1 as per conditions in Railway Board letter 2022/H/5/1/NER/Dalbir dtd 25.08.2022

Medical Appeal:

A candidate failing the required medical standard may be offered one last and final opportunity to prefer Medical Appeal on payment of prescribed charges; the appeal result is final and binding. Candidates found medically unsuitable shall not be given any alternative appointment.

The CEN states these medical standards are indicative and not exhaustive; PwBD standards are per Para 511(7) and Ex-Servicemen per Para 534 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual Vol. I. The CEN does not publish any height/chest/weight physical standard for these posts.
