CBT 1
Negative marking: 1/3rd marks deducted for each wrong answer
- Normalization:
- Normalization of marks will be done for CBTs held in multiple shifts.
- Role In Selection:
- Screening only. CBT-1 marks are NOT counted while preparing the final panel. Shortlisting for CBT-2 is RRB-wise and community-wise on normalized CBT-1 marks, limited to 15 times the vacancies notified against each RRB.
CEN 01/2026 does NOT publish any section-wise / subject-wise question or mark split for CBT-1. Para 12.1(c) states only the total (75 questions, 75 marks, 60 minutes) and then lists three syllabus heads (Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science) with no counts attached. Any per-subject breakdown is not in the notice. The CEN lists exactly three subjects — there is no General Awareness / Current Affairs section; those words do not occur anywhere in the document.

- Which Part Is Qualifying:
- Part-B is only a qualifying test (35% for all, irrespective of category). Part-A is the scoring part whose marks carry forward.
CEN 01/2026 does NOT publish a maximum-marks figure for CBT-2 or for Part-A / Part-B. The only 'Maximum marks' statement in the entire notice is for CBT-1 (75). Para 12.2(f) specifies CBT-2 in questions and minutes only, so no marks total is asserted here.
Part A
No section-wise / subject-wise question or mark split is published for Part-A. The CEN gives only the Part-A total of 100 questions in 90 minutes and then lists the three syllabus heads without counts.

Part B

- Qualifying Percentage:
- 35% for all candidates irrespective of category/community
Part-B is qualifying in nature only — its marks are not counted for merit.
CBAT
Negative marking: There shall be no negative marking in the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT).

- Who Takes It:
- Candidates equal to 8 (eight) times the number of ALP vacancies for each notified community/category — UR (includes OBC-CL), OBC(NCL), SC, ST and EWS (including ExSM) — shortlisted on the basis of their marks in Part-A of CBT-2 among candidates who chose the same RRB, with application of reservation rules, provided they qualify in Part-B of CBT-2. Candidates with equal marks at the cut-off point are all shortlisted.
- Qualifying Marks:
- All candidates, irrespective of community, must secure a minimum T-score of 42 marks in each test battery separately.
- Mandatory Document:
- Shortlisted candidates must produce their Self Screening Medical Declaration Report in the prescribed format (Annexure VIII A & VIII B) in original during the CBAT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear.
- Weightage In Merit:
- 50%. The merit list is prepared RRB-wise only from among candidates qualifying in the CBAT, with marks obtained in Part-A of CBT-2 and scores obtained in the CBAT given weightage in the ratio 50:50.
- Must Clear Each Section:
- It is mandatory to clear each test battery / section of CBAT separately, to qualify.
The CBAT is NOT merely a qualifying test. It has both a qualifying threshold (T-score 42 in each test battery) AND a 50% weight in the final merit list alongside Part-A of CBT-2. The CEN does not publish the number of questions, the marks or the duration of the CBAT, nor the names or number of its test batteries; candidates are directed to RDSO's website for CBAT information.
Selection process
- 1First Stage CBT (CBT-1)Screening exam only — 75 questions, 75 marks, 60 minutes, negative marking 1/3rd per wrong answer. Marks are not counted in the final panel. Minimum pass percentage UR & EWS 40%, OBC(NCL) 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. Shortlisting to CBT-2 is RRB-wise and community-wise on normalized CBT-1 merit, limited to 15 times the vacancies notified against each RRB (Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit).
- 2Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)175 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes across Part-A (100 questions, 90 minutes) and Part-B (75 questions, 60 minutes), negative marking 1/3rd per wrong answer. Part-B is qualifying only at 35% for all candidates. Only Part-A marks are counted for shortlisting to further stages, and Part-A carries 50% weight in the final merit.
- 3Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)Candidates equal to 8 times the ALP vacancies per community/category are shortlisted on Part-A marks of CBT-2, provided they qualified Part-B. Minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery separately is required; each test battery must be cleared separately. No negative marking; English and Hindi only. CBAT scores carry 50% weight in the merit list. Self Screening Medical Declaration Report (Annexure VIII A & VIII B) must be produced in original on the CBAT day.
- 4Document Verification (DV)The merit list is prepared RRB-wise only from among candidates qualifying in the CBAT, combining Part-A of CBT-2 (50% weightage) and CBAT scores (50% weightage), and taking into account candidates' preferences for Zones and posts. Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are shortlisted for Document Verification and Medical Examination. Ties are broken by age (older candidate ranked higher), then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the given name. Original certificates must be produced at DV; no additional time is given and candidature is liable to be forfeited otherwise.
- 5Medical Examination (ME)Candidates called for DV must pass the requisite medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration. ALP requires Medical Standard A-1: physically fit in all respects; Distant Vision 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D); Near Vision Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses; must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision etc. Candidates who have undergone Lasik Surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error are not eligible for ALP. Failure to pass means no empanelment and no alternate appointment; one last and final Medical Appeal may be offered on payment of prescribed charges.
