Ghar ka ORS - sirf tab jab packet na mile (bade logon ke liye)
Homemade ORS - only when no sachet is available (adults)
Loose motion me sabse zaroori kaam paani aur namak ki kami poori karna. Pehla vikalp medical store ka ORS packet hai. Ghar ka ghol — 1 litre saaf paani, aadha chammach namak, 6 chammach cheeni — sirf tab jab packet na mil raha ho.
Kya chahiye
- pehli pasand: medical store ka ORS packet (pehle se tula hua)
- 1 litre saaf paani (ubaal kar thanda kiya hua)
- 1/2 chhota chammach namak, level (dher lagakar nahi)
- 6 chhote chammach cheeni, level
- saaf bartan, maapne wala 1 litre ka jug aur dhule hue haath
Kaise banate hain
Sabse pehle: agar ORS ka packet mil sakta hai to wahi lijiye. Packet me maatra pehle se tuli hoti hai, ghar me chammach se banane me galti ki gunjaish rehti hai. Packet na mile tabhi ye tarika. Haath aur bartan achhi tarah dho lijiye. Poora ek litre saaf paani maapiye, andaze se nahi - ubaal kar thanda kiya hua ho to behtar. Usme aadha chhota chammach namak aur 6 chhote chammach cheeni daaliye. Chammach barabar bharke, dher lagakar nahi. Namak zyada daalna sabse badi galti hai aur khatarnak hai - zyada namak wala ghol khoon me sodium badha deta hai aur halat bigad sakti hai. Cheeni ghulne tak hilaiye aur chakh kar dekhiye, swaad aansu se zyada namkeen nahi lagna chahiye; zyada namkeen lage to phenk kar naya banaiye. Har patli latrine ke baad thode-thode ghoont karke piyein. Bana hua ghol 24 ghante se zyada mat rakhiye, naya bana lijiye. Ye ghol dast rokta nahi, sirf nikla hua paani aur namak wapas bharta hai. 12 saal se chhote bachche ke liye ye tarika nahi hai - unke liye ORS packet aur doctor, kyunki chhoti umr me ghol ki maatra thodi si bhi galat ho jaye to nuksan bada hota hai.
First things first: if you can get an ORS sachet, use that. The amounts in a sachet are already measured; mixing by spoon at home leaves room for error. Use this only when no sachet can be had. Wash your hands and the vessel. Measure a full litre of safe water, not a guessed jugful - boiled and cooled is better. Add half a level teaspoon of salt and 6 level teaspoons of sugar. Level, not heaped. Adding extra salt is the commonest and the most dangerous mistake - an over-salted mixture pushes the blood sodium up and can make the person much worse. Stir until the sugar dissolves and taste it: it should be no saltier than tears. If it tastes saltier, throw it away and mix a fresh one. Sip small amounts often, after every loose stool. Do not keep a made-up batch longer than 24 hours. This drink does not stop the diarrhoea; it only replaces the water and salts being lost. This home method is not for children under 12 - for them use a sachet and see a doctor, because at that size a small mixing error does a lot more harm.
Parampara kya kehti hai
Lagbhag har Indian ghar me daadi-nani ka pehla jawab yahi hota hai, namak-cheeni ka paani pila do. Kaha jata hai ki isse kamzori nahi aati, chakkar nahi aate, aur bahut logon ka maanna hai ki isse latrine bhi jaldi bandh ho jati hai. Kai ghar isme nimbu nichod dete hain ya chawal ka maand mila dete hain, aur aksar chammach andaze se pade jaate hain - yahi wo aadat hai jo sabse zyada nuksan karti hai. Ye maa aur nani se chali aa rahi ghar ki practice hai.
In almost every Indian home the first response is to give salt and sugar water. People say it keeps the weakness and the dizziness away, and many believe it also stops the loose motions quickly. Some households squeeze in lemon or use rice water instead, and the spoons usually go in by eye - that habit is exactly where the harm comes from. This is household practice handed down by mothers and grandmothers, not a written prescription.
Shodh kya kehti hai
Shodh isse maanti hai
Oral rehydration ka sabooth bahut majboot hai. WHO ki diarrhoeal disease fact sheet me sabse pehla kadam ORS se rehydration hai, aur ise saaf paani, namak aur cheeni ka ghol batati hai jo chand paise me banta hai aur choti aant me soakh kar mal ke zariye nikla hua paani aur electrolyte wapas bharta hai. WHO ki cholera Q&A ghar ka nuskha - 1 litre saaf paani, aadha chammach namak, 6 chammach cheeni - khaas taur par un halaat ke liye deti hai jab packet na ho, aur saath me ye bhi kehti hai ki pehle se tula hua ORS packet hi behtar vikalp hai. Do baatein saaf rakhiye. Ek, ye ghol latrine ko rokta nahi hai, ye dehydration sambhalta hai, yani nikla hua paani aur namak wapas bharta hai. Do, ghar par chammach se banane me maatra ka sahi hona zaroori hai; galat maatra, khaas kar zyada namak, khud me khatra hai, isliye packet mil jaye to wo hi lijiye. WHO zinc ki 10 se 14 din ki khurak bhi bataata hai, jiske baare me wo kehta hai ki ye bimari ki lambai 25% ghatati hai - wo khurak doctor se poochh kar lijiye.
The evidence for oral rehydration is very strong. The WHO fact sheet on diarrhoeal disease puts rehydration with ORS first and describes it as a mixture of clean water, salt and sugar costing a few cents, absorbed in the small intestine to replace the water and electrolytes lost in the faeces. WHO's cholera Q&A gives the home recipe - 1 litre of safe water, half a teaspoon of salt, 6 teaspoons of sugar - specifically for when you do not have ORS sachets, while making clear that pre-packaged sachets remain the preferred option. Two things must stay clear. First, this drink does not stop the diarrhoea, it manages the dehydration by replacing the water and salts being lost. Second, the home version depends entirely on measuring correctly; a wrong mixture, especially too much salt, is itself a hazard, so use a sachet whenever you can get one. WHO also recommends a 10 to 14 day course of zinc, which it says reduces the duration of an episode by 25% - ask a doctor about that dose.
